Sri Lankan player Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who recently said goodbye to international cricket, has changed his mind. In fact, he has withdrawn the resignation letter submitted to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) last week. Yes, once again he will be seen in the field.

A lot of questions were being raised when Rajapaksa had announced his retirement unintentionally, citing family obligations as the reason behind his decision. However, he is once again set to be available for the country in all formats.

In a letter to the board, Rajapaksa said, “I have carefully considered my position as a player, husband and I am taking this decision in view of paternity and related family obligations.” Let us inform that Rajapaksa was part of the Sri Lankan team in the T20 World Cup 2021. During this he performed brilliantly. He became the third highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka with 155 runs in eight matches.

However, on January 13, renowned cricket administrator Roshan Abesinghe took to his Twitter account to report the withdrawal of the letter submitted to Rajapaksa’s board. He wrote that good news! Welcome back Bhanuka Rajapakse. Bhanuka Rajapaksa withdrew his resignation submitted to Sri Lanka Cricket.

It was believed that Rajapaksa’s decision to retire was inspired by the new fitness guidelines for Sri Lankan players. The 30-year-old had become a regular in the Sri Lankan setup before public criticism from the board and differences with head coach Mickey Arthur after being dropped from the team landed him in controversy. As a result he was fined US$5,000 before gradually entering the national team again.

Bhanuka Rajapakse’s international career has just completed 3 years. Rajapaksa made his T20 International debut against Pakistan in 2019. Bhanuka Rajapaksa played his first match in ODIs against India in July 2021. Rajapaksa has scored 89 runs in 5 matches of his T20 career, while 320 runs in 18 ODIs.
