Sunil Gavaskar says team India approach on Day four of Cape Town Test was not right to win

Team India’s approach against South Africa was not good on the fourth day in the Cape Town Test match. This claim has been made by former cricketer and current cricket expert Sunil Gavaskar and he is also unhappy with this. On the fourth day of the match, South Africa needed 111 runs to win and Team India needed 8 wickets to win this match, but the team could take only one wicket. Sunil Gavaskar, who was doing the commentary of the match from the commentary box, revealed the mistake India made on the fourth day.

South Africa’s team easily achieved the target of 212 runs in 63.3 overs. Keegan Pietersen scored half-centuries in both the innings and for this reason he was adjudged the player of the match. At the same time, Sunil Gavaskar is surprised that the Indian team did not use Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur at the right time, when the wicket was needed. The experienced batsmen also seemed annoyed with India’s field placement, as Team India gave away runs easily. This was the reason why South Africa did not show pressure.

Why not bowl to Bumrah and Shardul: Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports, “It was a mystery to me why Shardul Thakur and Jasprit Bumrah were not allowed to bowl after lunch. It was almost as if India had decided that they would not win this match. The field placements were not good for Ashwin. Singles were easily available. Put five fielders in the deep and give chances to the batsmen. This is your chance to get them out.” Gavaskar praised the batsmen of South Africa’s team saying that they performed well.
