New Delhi. Legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar won the Indian Premier League (IPL) Young fast bowler Umran Malik, who took 5 wickets against Gujarat Titans, has been suggested in the Indian team for the upcoming tour of England. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 22-year-old fast bowler Umran from Jammu and Kashmir took five wickets for 25 runs while bowling brilliantly on Wednesday night. His performance, however, could not lead the team to victory as Rashid Khan (31 not out in 11 balls) and Rahul Teotia (40 not out in 21 balls) added 56 runs in the last four overs to give Gujarat Titans victory on the last ball. Gujarat team scored 22 runs in the last six balls.
Former Indian captain Gavaskar said after the match commentary, “The next challenge for him, I think, is the Indian team.” He said, “He may not get a chance to play in the playing XI because India have Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Umesh Yadav are there. So maybe he didn’t play.” Gavaskar said, “But just traveling with the team, traveling with players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, sharing the dressing room with them… Let’s see, its on that. What is the effect.”
The young pacer has regularly bowled at over 150 kmph throughout the season and has picked up 15 wickets in eight matches at an average of 15.93. India’s tour of England will start in June. Both the teams will first play the final Test of the five-match series which was canceled last year due to Kovid-19. This will be followed by a three-match T20 series and an ODI series of the same number of matches. The Indian team will begin its tour of Britain with two T20 Internationals against Ireland in Dublin from June 26.
