On the basis of half-centuries from aggressive openers Shefali Verma (51) and Laura Woolvaardt (51 not out), Velocity won the second match of the Women’s T20 Challenge 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Tuesday, Supernovas vs Velocity, 2nd. Match) by 7 wickets. Shefali hit one six and nine fours in 33-ball innings, while Woolvaardt hit a six with seven fours in his unbeaten 35-ball knock.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s stormy innings of 71 runs in 51 balls made the Supernovas 150 for 5 when they were invited to bat first. Velocity chased down the target easily for the loss of three wickets with 10 balls to spare. Captain Deepti Sharma contributed 24 not out off 25 balls for the team.
Chasing the target, Velocity lost the wicket of Natkan Chantham (1 run) in the second over itself. However, this did not affect Shefali and she continued to bat aggressively in her style. They got good support from wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia (17 runs) and both laid the foundation of victory by sharing 63 runs in 29 balls. Shefali scored the fastest half-century of the tournament in 28 balls with a run against Alana King in the ninth over after Yastika was dismissed off Deandra Dottin (2 for 21). She, however, became Dotin’s second victim in the next over. After this, the pair of Woolvaardt and Deepti gave the team victory by making an unbroken partnership of 71 runs.
Earlier, Velocity’s bowlers did well in the beginning but with Harmanpreet’s unmatched innings, Supernovas’ team managed to put up a challenging score. Harmanpreet hit seven fours and three sixes in his innings. He found good support from wicketkeeper Tania Bhatia (36 runs) and the two put on an excellent 82-run partnership after falling three wickets for 18 runs. Tania hit three fours in her 32-ball innings.
In the last over, Sune Luce scored an unbeaten 20 runs in 14 balls with the help of three fours, taking the team’s score to 150 runs. Kate Cross took two for 24 while Radha Sharma and Deepti took one wicket each for velocity. . Priya Punia (four runs), Dotin (six) and Harleen Deol (seven) could not continue the good form of the previous match in this match.
