New Delhi. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has selected his best playing XI for the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup. Chopra picked England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler as the opener-cum-wicketkeeper in the team and said that Butler’s century against Sri Lanka was the knock of the tournament according to him. Chopra then picked David Warner to open with Jos Buttler and then picked Pakistan’s batting superstar Babar Azam at number 3. Azam will also lead this team. Aakash Chopra has not selected any Indian player in this playing XI.
Aakash Chopra said, “I have chosen Jos Buttler and he is also my wicketkeeper. He scored 269 runs at an average of around 90 and a strike rate of 151. Hundred against Sri Lanka, I thought it was the innings of the tournament. Neighbors must be thinking that Babar or Rizwan can come with them, but neither of them is there. I have chosen David Warner. He scored 289 runs at an average of 48.2 at a strike rate of 146. And this is where I think the two Pakistan openers are missing out because their strike rate is too low.”
Babar Azam appointed captain
Cricketer-turned-commentator Akash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “I have chosen Babar Azam to bat at number three. Sorry Rizwan, I feel for you, but I think you won’t be able to manage at number 3. Babar is a little more classy and he is also my captain. Babar has scored 303 runs at an average of 60 with a strike rate of 126. Aakash Chopra picked Sri Lankan Charith Aslanka at No. 4 and even labeled the left-handed batsman as the future of Sri Lankan cricket. Aiden Markram has got a place in Chopra’s playing XI at number 5.
Charith Aslanka was told the future cricketer
He said, “I have chosen Charith Aslanka at number 4. He is a left-handed batsman from Sri Lanka and I like him a lot. He scored 231 runs at an average of 46 and a strike rate of 147. He is the future of Sri Lanka. At number 5, I have picked Aiden Markram, a slightly unlikely option. I couldn’t fit Mitchell Marsh here. Markram has scored 162 runs at an average of 54 and a strike rate of around 146. He can also bowl two or three overs.
Aakash Chopra picks his all-rounder and bowlers
Aakash Chopra has selected Moeen Ali and David Wiese as two all-rounders in his playing XI. Chopra described Ali’s contribution to England as wonderful and said that David Wiese did well against the big teams of the tournament and brought a lot of experience with him. He said, “After that I have hired Moeen Ali. He scored 92 runs at an average of 46 and a strike rate of 131. He took seven wickets and the economy was 5.5. His contribution has been amazing. After that, I chose David Wiese. He has scored 227 runs at an average of 45 and strike rate of 127. More importantly, he has taken six wickets at an economy of 7.4. The thing I love about them is the experience. It is not easy for a small team player to perform well against the big teams.
4 bowlers in Chopra’s playing XI
Adam Zampa, Trent Boult, Josh Hazlewood and Enrique Norcia are among the four bowlers who have made it to his playing XI. Chopra said Zampa was the best leg-spinner in the tournament, while Trent Boult has improved his bowling skills.
Rockstar told Enrique Norcia
He said, “Zampa is in my team. He is my lone leg spinner. Economy of 5.8 and 13 wickets at an average of 12. Just imagine that the T20 World Cup is happening in 2021 and the best leg-spinner of the tournament is actually an Australian. Trent Boult is my next player. Economy of 6.3 and 13 wickets at an average of 13. His game has improved a lot. He bowls with the new ball, middle overs and death overs. He has been economical everywhere. Chopra went on to say that Josh Hazlewood won his heart by being successful by bowling down the Test match line, and ended up labeling Enrique Norcia as a rockstar.
