Former England captain Michael Vaughan is in a lot of discussion about his comments regarding Team India. Known for criticizing India and Indian cricketers, Vaughan has praised an Indian cricketer. Shardul Thakur has produced match-winning performances for India with the ball and bat in the recent past and this is the reason why Vaughan compared Shardul to former England captain and one of the best all-rounders in the world, Ian Botham. Vaughan feels that Shardul is exactly like Botham. Apart from this, Vaughan said that Shardul was removed from the list of reserve players and given a place in the 15-member team at the behest of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who became Team India’s mentor for the T20 World Cup.
Shardul plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). CSK, captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, won the title of IPL 2021 played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). On Cricbuzz, Vaughan said, ‘Last week I was with Lord Botham and he is really Lord. Thakur is a lot like Botham. He takes the ball in his hand and turns things around. He has done this in the Test series as well and in the IPL as well. Team India’s mentor was behind the stumps in IPL, he was captaining them.
Vaughan further said, ‘I think Dhoni must have called up Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli, and talked about them. Shardul has the power to change the match on the field. Shardul was included in the 15-man squad, while Axar Patel was included in the reserve players’ list.
