Dubai. India’s veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has welcomed the decision to appoint Rahul Dravid as the head coach, saying that he has immense knowledge of cricket, which will prove useful. Dravid, who served as the NCA chief, has been given the charge till the 2023 World Cup. He will replace the current coach Ravi Shastri. Team India performed well during Shastri’s tenure. But the team has not won any ICC trophy so far.
Talking to the media before the match to be held tomorrow (T20 World Cup 2021), R Ashwin said, ‘Rahul Bhai has immense knowledge of cricket. He has worked in NCA and also with India A team. They know what to do. He knows all the young players and I look forward to his tenure. I would also like to contribute with them. Ashwin had landed against Afghanistan in a match of the T20 World Cup. This was his World Cup first match. He also took 2 wickets while bowling brilliantly.
Could do well because of family
On the good performance against Afghanistan, R Ashwin said that it is all because of his family. Since he is living in bio bubble for 8-10 months. He said, ‘Life in a bio bubble is not easy. We don’t get along with each other and live in groups. It has been like this since last 8-10 months. Without family this would not have been possible. A lot of credit goes to him. Team India got the first win of the tournament against Afghanistan. Earlier, he had suffered crushing defeats from New Zealand and Pakistan.
Team India has to face Scotland in the fourth match of the tournament on Friday. The team is currently at number four with 2 points. The team’s run rate is now .073. In such a situation, he will need a big win over Scotland. The run rate of New Zealand and Afghanistan is much better than Team India.
