New Delhi. Former selector Sarandeep Singh said that Rohit Sharma is the first choice for captaincy after Virat Kohli in the limited overs team, but he will not be able to hold this position for long. Virat Kohli will leave the captaincy of the T20 team after the World Cup (T20 World Cup 2021) and Rohit is set to be the captain in his place. Now questions are also being raised about the captaincy of ODIs and Sarandeep said that Rohit is suitable for the position, but he will be able to play this role only for a short period.
Former cricket Sarandeep said, ‘Rohit is a good option to captain the limited overs team. He is one of your best batsmen, but it is for the selectors to decide whether to make him the captain for a few years (till the 2023 ODI World Cup) or give the responsibility to a player who can lead the team for a long time. ‘ He said that if they are looking too far ahead then KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant can be good options.
Wrong decision to drop Bhuvneshwar from the team
Team India has lost 2 consecutive matches in the T20 World Cup. In the second match, fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar was replaced by Shardul Thakur. Sarandeep Singh called it a wrong decision. He said, ‘If you lose a match with Best-11, then there should not be much change in it. Bhuvneshwar should never have been dropped. If Shardul had to be given a chance then Hardik Pandya had to be dropped.
Haven’t been bowling since 2 years
Sarandeep Singh said that Hardik Pandya is no longer the player he used to be two years ago. Why would you keep him in the team when he is not fit as an all-rounder. He hasn’t bowled regularly for 2 years. He questioned fast bowler Mohammed Shami and said that he is not more useful in T20 than in ODIs and Tests. According to me, Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal should have been in the team.
