Australia defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup on Thursday. Adam Zampa played a major role in Australia’s victory. He took five wickets for 19 runs. Zampa could have become the bowler to take the third hat-trick in this World Cup. But wicketkeeper Matthew Wade dropped the catch and stopped him from doing this feat. Zampa took two wickets in the last two balls of the 11th over. Taskin Ahmed’s edge of the bat went to Wade on Zampa’s hat-trick ball but wicketkeeper Wade could not catch the catch.
ICC has shared a video on Instagram from its official account. In this video, the conversation between the two is heard after dropping the catch. After the catch is missed, Adam Zampa tells Matthew Wade, ‘It was my hat-trick ball’, to which Wade replies, ‘Yeah, I tried to catch it.’ Had Wade caught this catch, then along with being a hat-trick of Zampa, 6 wickets in this match would have also been taken. Zampa was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant performance.
Zampa, who arrived to receive the Man of the Match award, said, ‘I am very happy with my performance. The catch that went to Wade on the hat-trick ball was a tough catch. I took 2 wickets in 2 consecutive balls 3 or 4 overs ago, for once I thought no one would even remember that I was on a hat-trick. My role today was a little different in the absence of Ashton Agar. Taking 5 wickets for the national team is always a great experience. The other bowlers of the team also bowled very well.
