T20 World Cup: David Wiese blistering knock helps Namibia beat Netherlands keeps them in hunt for Super 12 – Latest Cricket News

Namibia posted a high-ranking 66 off David VJ and a 51-ball 93 for the fourth wicket with captain Gerhard Erasmus (32) in a Group A match in the first round of the T20 World Cup on Wednesday. The team was defeated by six wickets in six balls. It was debutant Namibia’s first win in a first-round match. The veteran VJ has also played T20 Internationals for South Africa. He faced 40 balls and hit four fours and five sixes. This is his first international fifty. His innings turned the dice of the match within a few minutes.

Namibia had lost three wickets for 52 runs in nine overs, but the 36-year-old VJ single-handedly helped the Netherlands beat the Netherlands in 19 overs. He completed his half-century in just 29 balls by hitting a six on the captain of the rival team, Peter Seelar. During this, he hit long sixes on the spinners of the Netherlands. Apart from captain Erasmus (four fours and a six in 22 balls), JJ Smit scored an unbeaten 14 off eight balls in the end. Smit ensured the team’s victory by hitting two fours in the last two balls of the 19th over.

With this win, Namibia remain in the race for the Super 12 stage and will have to beat Ireland in the last match of the first round. Namibia was defeated by Sri Lanka in the opening match. The Netherlands have now lost both their matches and their chances of reaching the next round are slim. Earlier, the Netherlands posted a competitive score of 164 for four with opener Max O’Dowd (70) scoring a second successive half-century and an 82-run partnership with Colin Ackerman (35).

O’Dowd, who scored 51 runs against Ireland in the previous match, scored runs easily against the bowlers. His 57-ball knock included six fours and a six. It was not easy to stroke the wicket and his opening partner Stefan Mayberg (17) was happy to score runs according to the ball. In an attempt to play the ball high from Jan Frylink, Mayberg was caught by Bard at point.

The Netherlands team had high hopes from Rolf van der Merwe (06), but he was dismissed cheaply by fast bowler David VJ. Ackerman made good use of his legs though. O’Dowd completed his half-century by hitting a boundary in the cover area off spinner Bernard Scholtz. With this shot, the team’s 100 runs were also completed in the 14th over. Fast bowler JJ Smit impressed with his precise deliveries in the slog overs as the Netherlands batsmen were unable to score runs easily. VJ also continued to bowl tightly.
