New Delhi. There is very little time left in the T20 World Cup 2021. In such a situation, the poor form of three Mumbai Indians (MI) players Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav has increased the tension of the selectors. These three are currently playing in the second half of IPL 2021. But so far their performance has been lackluster. The selectors are keeping a close watch on his performance and if his form remains the same, then one of these players may be replaced by Shreyas Iyer in the main squad. Shreyas, who is returning to the IPL after a shoulder injury, has been kept as a stand-by in the T20 World Cup squad.
Mumbai Indians won the IPL title last year. Since then, many players of the team were on the radar of the selectors and this year on the tour of England and Sri Lanka, some players of Mumbai Indians got a chance to debut in international cricket. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan played ODIs and T20s for India. At the same time, Rahul Chahar got a chance to play ODIs. All three also made it to the team selected for the T20 World Cup. But in the second half of IPL 2021, this player of Mumbai Indians seems to be struggling with his form.
InsideSport has learned that Shreyas Iyer is being eyed as a replacement for Ishan Kishan. But Hardik Pandya will remain in the team for the time being.
Shreyas Iyer can make it to the main squad
A BCCI source told InsideSport that yes, the form of these players is a matter of some concern. But there are still some matches left in the IPL, hopefully this player will regain form. Suryakumar is consistently scoring runs for India. So don’t worry too much about them. Ishan Kishan also did well in Sri Lanka. Virat also spoke to him on Sunday and let’s see what happens next.
Why the form of the Mumbai Indians trio increased tension?
Ishaan has scored 11, 14 and 9 runs in the second half of IPL 2021 so far. This time his average in IPL is 13.37. In the last season, he scored 516 runs at an average of more than 57. Suryakumar Yadav’s bat is also silent. In the last three innings of IPL 2021, he has scored 3, 5 and 8 runs.
At the same time, the fitness of Hardik Pandya is also under question. He has played only one out of 3 matches for Mumbai Indians and in that too he has not bowled a single ball and has scored runs in 8 innings at an average of 7.85. Rahul Chahar did well in the first half. But in the second half, he has taken only 1 wicket in 3 matches and has given 33 and 34 runs in the last 2 matches.
T20 World Cup squad may change
A BCCI source said that we have Shreyas Iyer as a backup, if there is any concern, he can be added. But it is too early to say anything now. Ishan Kishan is an important player and so is Suryakumar. There is no point in speculating.
Question on Hardik’s fitness
As far as Hardik Pandya is concerned, his fitness remains a puzzle. He has not bowled in IPL 2021. In Sri Lanka, he looked sluggish and did not bowl full overs of his quota in ODIs. His performance with the bat was also poor. He scored 19 runs in two innings and took just two wickets at an economy rate of 6.94. In T20s, he scored 10 runs and took one wicket in two overs at an economy rate of 8.50.
Hardik no backup
According to Insightsport, Hardik is recovering well and Mumbai Indians have managed his workload well. We will have to see how it will work in the future. He is bowling in the nets, which is a good sign. Rohit is there, so he knows better how to handle it. At present, Hardik does not have a backup. Shardul and Deepak Chahar are good choices. But he is yet to prove himself as a regular all-rounder in T20. Hence, Hardik remains the best all-rounder.
