Dubai. Many cricketers and captains have learned the tricks of the game from the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Namibian captain Gerhard Erasmus is no different, who is a fan of the calm nature of the former India wicketkeeper-batsman. Apart from Erasmus Dhoni, he also takes inspiration from former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum. McCullum is the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League.
In a press conference organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Erasmus said that when it comes to my captaincy style, I learn by watching Brendon McCullum or MS Dhoni, they test the game well. But the style of both is quite different. He said that I have learned a lot by watching McCullum, there is ease in his captaincy. Dhoni, on the other hand, is always calm on the field. That is his biggest quality and I am learning captaincy by watching him.
AB de Villiers is also a great player: Erasmus
Erasmus is also a fan of South Africa’s legendary batsman AB de Villiers. He said that the kind of energy he (de Villiers) brings to the crease and shoots all around the field, it is fantastic. I used to follow him as a youth and still do.
‘Sharjah pitch could prove beneficial for us’
The pitch is looking slow in Sharjah. This has also been seen in many matches of IPL. On this the captain of Namibia said that it may be in his team’s favor. We (in the UAE) are watching the situation closely and making our strategy accordingly. The wicket of Sharjah has shown a little slow play. We have players with a lot of different skills in the team, we also have spinners who change the pace. I think the wicket of Sharjah can prove beneficial for us.
Namibia will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on 18 October. The team will take on Ireland on 22 October at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
