Mumbai. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting believes that Rishabh Pant will prove to be very dangerous on the fast and bouncy tracks of Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup. In such a situation, he can be best used as a ‘floater’ (at any position in the batting order) according to the circumstances of each match. Ponting has worked with Pant in the Delhi Capitals franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Indian wicketkeeper rates the batsman very high. T20 World Cup matches are to be held in October-November. In the tournament held in UAE last year, the Indian team was already eliminated in the first round.
Ricky Ponting said in the ICC review, ‘Rishabh Pant is a great player. A great young player, who will be a very dangerous cricketer for India in the T20 World Cup. Especially on Australian wickets which are very flat, fast and bouncy. All eyes will be on his performance in the tournament. Ponting believes that Pant’s position in the batting order should be flexible, according to the needs of the Indian team.
Got a chance at number 5
He said that I think he can be fed as a floater. I would probably like him at number 5 in the Indian batting lineup. Ponting, who has played 168 Tests for Australia, said that but in certain situations where there are 7-8 overs left, I would like to send him and give as much time as possible. He is such a great player and such an aggressive player that I would like to use him like this.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant had scored just 340 runs in 14 IPL matches, with an average of 30.91. According to Ponting, Pant was very disappointed with his performance in the IPL. He said that for him the IPL was probably not his best tournament. He was really disappointed with his IPL performance this year, as he was batting very well before the tournament, which I had not seen before.
