Team India-like contract system will now be in domestic cricket as well, Ranji champion team started preparations

Mumbai. There is good news for the first-class cricketers of Mumbai that the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has agreed in principle to sign a contract with them. A senior MCA official said, “This decision was taken in the Apex Council meeting recently and it will be similar to what is done by the BCCI (Cricket Board of India). The Association’s Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) will work on its modalities. Giving contracts to domestic players was one of the promises made by Sourav Ganguly after becoming the BCCI President in 2019.

The CIC of MCA currently includes Nilesh Kulkarni, Jatin Paranjpe and Vinod Kambli as members. The BCCI makes central contracts with its men and women cricketers and they are paid an annual amount according to their grades. The Mumbai Cricket Association will also divide its players into different grades under the board’s grading system. However, how many players will be part of the contract and how many different grades will be there, it is not decided yet. However, it is certain that the players from Mumbai who are included in the Central Contract List of BCCI will be out of the list of MCA. So that more and more domestic cricketers can be added to it.

Apex Council approves MCA President’s proposal
According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, after the good performance of Mumbai’s team in the 2021-22 domestic season, President Vijay Patil made the offer of the contract. It has got the in-principle approval of the Apex Council. Now it will be presented in the AGM to be held in August and this proposal has to be approved in this also.

Will help in adding new talent: MCA
Patil told ESPNcricinfo, “Mumbai have done very well this year and the question of providing security to our domestic players and ensuring that we retain the talent pool we have in Mumbai cricket has always been there. I think the grading system will give us an opportunity to invest in young talent. I am very happy that the Apex Council has unanimously approved it.
