Rahane recently returned to the team after 18 months
He batted brilliantly in the WTC final match
New Delhi. Vikram Rathore, the batting coach of the Indian cricket team, has praised Ajinkya Rahane, the vice-captain of the Test team. Rathore says that Team India needs informed batsmen like Rahane on the upcoming South African tour. He hoped that this inexperienced batsman of Team India would maintain his form on the tour of South Africa at the end of the year.
Rahane’s innings of 89 and 46 were the only positives for India during India’s defeat in the World Test Championship (WTC Final) final against Australia in London last month. While Indian star players were failing in the WTC final against Australia, Rahane impressed everyone with his batting. Rahane was returning to the Test through this match and this was his first Test in the last 18 months. Rahane was appointed as the vice-captain for the current tour of West Indies after his impressive performance in the WTC final against Australia.
The 35-year-old right-handed batsman, however, got out cheaply in the first Test here and will look to make amends in the second Test starting July 20 in Port of Spain. On Rahane’s return, Vikram Rathore said, ‘He played very well in the WTC final. He has always been a good player. He was dropped from the team due to poor form. When it comes to technology, you constantly work on it, but what is important for me is that his attitude was very calm.
India has to go to South Africa in December-January
India now has to play Test series in South Africa in December-January. It is not easy for Team India to defeat the Proteas team by going to their home in the Test. The last time Team India toured South Africa, India made a great start by winning the first Test but lost the last two Tests and lost the series.
‘Rahane is playing shots too late and too close to the body’
According to Rathore, ‘He is playing shots late and close to the body. This has been the most important thing since the comeback. He is still batting like this in the nets. We hope he does well. In South African conditions, you need a player like him to perform well. This year’s schedule is very busy for Team India. He also has to play Asia Cup and World Cup this year. Meanwhile, ODI and T20 series are also to be played in Windies. Another team of Team India will participate in the Asian Games. India also has to tour Ireland in August.
