Temba Bavuma replaces Dean Elgar as captain of South Africa Test team

Temba Bavuma to lead South Africa in all three formats
2 Test series against West Indies will start from February 28

New Delhi. There has been a lot of reshuffle in South Africa Cricket. Dean Elgar has been stripped of the captaincy of the Test team. In his place, Temba Bavuma will lead the team in this format as well. The responsibility of captaining the ODI and T20 team is already with Bavuma. Bavuma is the first black African to lead the team in all formats. Taking another important decision, Cricket South Africa has also removed Chief Selector Victor Mpitsang from his post.

In March 2021, Dean Elgar was given the Test, while Temba Bavuma was appointed as the captain of the ODI and T20 team. Under Elgar’s captaincy, South Africa won series against West Indies, India and Bangladesh. However, he had to face defeat in the Test series against England and Australia. Dean Elgar will be included in the team as an opener in the home series of 2 Test matches against West Indies starting from 28 February.

Temba Bavuma scored the most runs in the Test series against Australia. Recently, South Africa won 2-1 in the 3 ODI series against England. Captain Temba Bavuma scored 109 runs in 102 balls in the second ODI. With the help of his strong innings, South Africa had achieved the big target of 342 runs. Under the leadership of Bavuma, the African team managed to win the ODI series against England for the first time in 7 years. Temba Bavuma was a part of the Eastern Cape team that won the South Africa T20 League title. However, Bavuma was a complete flop with the bat in the T20 World Cup.

Enque said, we would like to thank Elgar who played his role honestly in the last 2 years.
