Gujarat got good support from David Miller (30) and newcomer Abhinav Manohar (15 not out) in the last over as the team won the match after scoring 70 runs in the last 5 overs. Tewatia was roped in by Gujarat Titans for Rs 9 crore in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Tewatia hit 5 fours and 2 sixes in his match-winning innings while Miller hit 2 sixes and a four in his 21-ball knock. Both of them made a partnership of 60 runs and turned the match towards Gujarat. Manohar hit three brilliant fours in an unbeaten innings of 7 balls.

Earlier, on the basis of half-century innings of debutant Ayush Badoni (54) and all-rounder Deepak Hooda (55) and a brilliant 87-run partnership for the 5th wicket between the two, Lucknow scored a challenging score. Hooda hit 2 sixes and 6 fours in his 41-ball innings, while Badoni hit 3 sixes and 4 fours in his innings of the same ball. Both the teams are playing in IPL for the first time. Gujarat will take on Delhi Capitals in their second match on April 2, while Lucknow Super Giants will take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings on March 31.
