Australian legend turned down offer to play in India’s domestic league
In IPL-2022, this player played for the two-time champion team.
New Delhi. In the last few years, T20 cricket leagues have become very popular around the world. This is the reason that almost every major cricket playing country has started its own T20 league or has taken steps towards doing so. Players also sometimes prefer to play in this type of cricket league instead of the country because of money. But, Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins has chosen a different path. According to media reports, Cummins got an offer to play in India’s domestic league. For this, he was told to give 1 million Australian dollars (about 5.5 crores). But, Cummins immediately turned down this offer, preferring to play for Australia. Fox Sports has given this information.
Let us inform that Pat Cummins played for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL-2022. He took 7 wickets in 5 matches. Earlier, KKR had released him before the mega auction but, in the auction, bought the bowler again.
Cummins turned down the offer of a franchise league
According to Fox News, about the franchise tournament, Cummins said, “These opportunities are huge and they keep coming up again and again.” Still playing for my country, playing international cricket is my priority. Especially in Australia, we cannot take this opportunity lightly. According to the report, several state cricket associations affiliated to the BCCI are trying to bring international players to their local franchise leagues.
The dominance of franchise cricket is increasing
With the advent of two new franchise leagues United Arab Emirates (ILT20) and South Africa (SA20), the strength of franchise cricket has increased. Many teams in these leagues belong to the owners of IPL franchises. Players are being offered big money to play in it. For this reason, many players are giving priority to playing in these T20 leagues instead of the country. The first season of the T20 league will be played in the UAE and South Africa next year.
Meanwhile, two New Zealand star players, Trent Boult and James Neesham, turned down a central contract from the New Zealand Cricket Board with the intention of playing a franchise cricket league. Also, some of the big players of the West Indies like Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have also been criticized many times for leaving the country and playing in the T20 league.
