U-19 Asia Cup India to Face Bangladesh in Semifinal After Group-decider Called Off Due to Covid – Latest Cricket News


India will take on Bangladesh in the semi-finals after the final group match of the Under-19 Asia Cup between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka was canceled after two officials tested positive for COVID-19 here on Tuesday. Earlier, there were reports that India will face Pakistan in the semi-finals to be held on Thursday, but this is not the case now. 32.4 overs had already been played in Group B’s final match when the match was called off after two officials tested positive for COVID-19.

2 officers found COVID-19 positive

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said in a statement, “The Asian Cricket Council and the Emirates Cricket Board confirm that the final Group B match of the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup played today has been cancelled. It is confirmed that two officers have been found COVID-19 positive. The officials are safe now and are being treated as per the rules of the tournament. All the officials related to this match are being tested and they will remain in isolation till the results are out.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka had already qualified for the semi-finals and the group’s winner and runner-up were to be decided by this match. Bangladesh topped the group due to their better run-rate and will face India in the semi-finals on December 30. Sri Lanka will take on Pakistan in the second semi-final. India is the most successful team of this tournament having won the title four times in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018. India was also the runner-up in 2016. The last tournament in 2020 took place in New Zealand.
