Lahore: Pakistan will take on arch-rivals India in the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in UAE on October 24. Former Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul has said that the team selected for the ICC T20 World Cup should not be criticized. In view of the negativity about the country’s cricket after the cancellation of tours of New Zealand and England, there is a need to encourage the cricketers of Pakistan.
Gul said on Pak cricket
Umar Gul said, ‘There is no doubt that there has been a lot of criticism since the announcement of the (T20 World Cup) team. I think we should criticize the team but not mention the names of the players because our cricket is going through a difficult phase after the tour of New Zealand and England to Pakistan was cancelled. It is time to support the players instead of demoralizing them.
Support the players: Gul
The 37-year-old former pacer, who has taken over 400 international wickets, said even cricketers should not take criticism to heart and keep performing to the best of their ability.
He said, ‘The players should also take this criticism positively instead of coming under pressure. I did the same. When I faced such situation during my career and tried to answer my critics through my performance on the field. The ongoing National T20 Cup is also a good chance for the players to regain their confidence.
Don’t take pressure: Gul
On the extra pressure on the team ahead of the high-pressure match against India, Gul said, “India is the extra pressure of the match because the whole country wants you to beat them.” I suggest players should play their natural game. Players should not let the pressure overwhelm them as this is a high-voltage match. I would also suggest that two to three days before, especially during India’s match, players should avoid social and traditional media.
