Barbados. The Under-19 World Cup has started today i.e. on January 14. The first match is being played between hosts West Indies and Australia. However, the West Indies team could not start well. The team was reduced to just 169 runs in 40.1 overs. 7 players could not reach the tens figures. But the highlight of the match was spin bowler Nivethan Radhakrishnan, who surprised everyone by bowling both off-spin and left-arm spin in the same over.
Indian-origin Nivethan Radhakrishnan took wickets against the West Indies both as an off-spinner and as a left-arm spinner. He took 3 wickets for 48 runs in 10 overs. Captain Akim Auguste scored the highest 57 runs for West Indies. Radhakrishnan has been a net bowler for Delhi Capitals in the IPL (Indian Premier League). In 2013, his family moved from Tamil Nadu to Sydney. India is also entering the T20 World Cup, but it is not in Australia’s group. But both the teams may clash in the knockout round.
Was a flop against India
Nivethan had earlier also landed against India in the practice match. But they could not do anything amazing. He gave 40 runs in 8 overs and could not take any wicket. Earlier he has also represented Australia for Under-16. Radhakrishnan’s father Anbu Selvan supported him a lot. He has played junior cricket for Tamil Nadu.
In the last season, he took 20 wickets in premier cricket in Australia. Apart from this, about 900 runs were also scored. He started his career as a fast bowler. Later he chose spin bowling. The Australian team has to face West Indies, Scotland and Sri Lanka in Group D in the World Cup.
