The state of Punjab is all set to come out with its own EV policy as CM Bhagwant Mann recently approved the draft policy, which includes several rewards for EV buyers. Under the new upcoming policy, Punjab will waive off registration charges and road tax for EV buyers in the state, as well as offer cash benefits.

According to the draft EV policy, the first 1 lakh EV buyers in the state will be given a reward of up to Rs 10,000, apart from tax and registration exemption. The state government is doing this with the aim of promoting electric vehicles in cities like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala and Bathinda, as sales in these cities account for 50 percent of the total vehicle sales in the state. The objective of the policy is to bring the number of EVs in all vehicles plying in the state to 25 percent.
