Virat kohli may not be the captain in test and odi after t20i says former head coach ravi shastri

New Delhi. Virat Kohli, one of the world’s greatest batsmen, can now leave the captaincy in Test and ODI formats as well. Ravi Shastri, the former head coach of the Indian cricket team said this. Shastri believes that Virat Kohli can step down from the captaincy of other formats after T20 Internationals to deal with the pressure related to Kovid-19. Shastri’s tenure with the team came to an end with India’s early exit from the ICC T20 World Cup being played in the UAE.

When asked about Kohli’s captaincy in a conversation with ‘India Today’, Shastri said that he can leave the responsibility of leadership from other formats for better workload management. He said, ‘India has been at the top notch for the last 5 years under his captaincy in Test cricket. Unless he feels mentally exhausted, he will not want to give up the captaincy. However, he may quit the captaincy to focus on batting in the near future.

He said, ‘It will not happen immediately, but it can happen. The same can happen with white ball cricket (in limited overs formats). He can say that now he just wants to focus on Test captaincy. Describing Kohli as the fittest cricketer, Shastri said, “Many successful players have left the captaincy to focus on their batting.”

He said, “Virat definitely has the hunger to do well in the game, he is fitter than anyone in the team, no doubt about that. When you are physically fit, you age in sports. In terms of captaincy, it will be his decision, but I see he can say no to white ball cricket but should continue to play red ball cricket. He has been the best ambassador of Test cricket.

Shastri estimates that apart from Kohli, many other players can take a long break to deal with the fatigue of the bio bubble. He stressed on the need for different captains for different formats in the time of Kovid-19. He said, ‘It is important to have different captains in such times because it will reduce the pressure on the player. I think a lot of players want to take a break. You will need to take some rest from the game from time to time.

On India’s World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev accusing players of giving priority to IPL over the country, Shastri said, “After the postponement of IPL in April, they (BCCI) had no option. I don’t think it will happen again in future. As far as Kapil is concerned, he is right about the IPL schedule as it increased the fatigue of the players.
