Viswanathan Anand Carlson Blitz: India’s star player Viswanathan Anand has achieved great success in chess. Indian stalwart Viswanathan Anand continued his stellar form in the classical section of the Norway Chess Tournament to register his third consecutive win by defeating Wang Hao of China in the third round.

Anand won the match in a bang

Viswanathan Anand, 52, won the match at Armageddon (Sudden Death) in the early hours of Friday as the match was drawn after 39 moves in the stipulated time. Anand defeated Hao in 44 moves and now has 7.5 points. America’s Wesley So is second with six points and world number one Magnus Carlsen is third with five-and-a-half points.

Anand registers third win

Anand had earlier defeated Maxim Vachier Lagrave of France and Vaseline Topalov of Bulgaria in the classical category. Carlsen returned after defeating Timur Rajabov. He lost in the second round to sudden death. In other matches, Vachier Lagrave defeated Norway’s Aryan Tari while Anish Giri and So’s bets ended in a draw even after the stipulated time and Armageddon. Shakhriyar Mammediyarov defeated Topalov at Armageddon.

In each round in the main tournament of the Norway Chess Festival, players will have 120 minutes to complete the game with 10 seconds increments after 40 moves. The event includes a total prize money of 2,500,000 Norwegian krone (approximately Rs 2.06 crore), with the winner receiving 750,000 NOK (approximately Rs 61.88 lakh).
