VVS Laxman gave guru knowledge, this work will have to be done to make Indian team champion

New Delhi. The whole world is in awe of the ‘bench strength’ of Indian cricketers but National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman feels that there is a huge pool of world-class coaches and other support staff to take Indian cricket to the next level. It is equally important to prepare the ‘pool’. Former Indian batsman Laxman took over the responsibility of NCA in December. Talking about his vision for Indian cricket at the BCCI Apex Council meeting on Thursday, he said, “It is my early days at the NCA but my vision is not limited to the players only. As important as it is to build strong ‘bench strength’, equally important is to build strong ‘bench strength’ of the coaches and other support staff.

“Given how professional the game has become and how much cricket is played these days, there is bound to be an increase in the demand for top-class coaches and physio and scientific medical specialists,” he said.

Laxman said, “It is our responsibility to start such a program at NCA which helps Indian talent to express themselves in this department as well.”

Laxman went on a Caribbean tour with the Indian Under-19 team soon after taking over at the NCA and most recently he was the coach of the Indian team that toured Ireland with Rahul Dravid.
