Navi Mumbai. Ravichandran Ashwin In the current season of the Indian Premier League, he is showing great batting with his bowling, which he credits to the rigorous batting practice at the beginning of the season. Rajasthan Royals had already told this off-spinner that he can be sent to the top order. Batting at number three against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, Ashwin scored 50 runs in 38 balls, although his team had to face defeat in this match.
After the match, Ashwin told reporters, “I was told even before the session that I would be sent up the order as a batsman. We also played some practice matches in which I opened the innings. The veteran off-spinner said, ‘I worked very hard on my batting and so it is good to see that I am getting the benefit of that.’
Regarding the practice done before the IPL, Ashwin said, ‘I was in good batting mode even before the start of the season. I worked a little hard on the batting, changed my technique a little. It feels good to play a half-century inning but it did not help the team win. Royals currently have 14 points from 12 matches and are in third place while Delhi are in fifth place with 12 points from the same number of matches.
Mitchell Marsh played an important role in Delhi’s victory. Marsh took two wickets for 25 runs in the first three overs and later played a blistering innings of 89 runs. Apart from him, David Warner scored 52 runs. Marsh said, ‘The ball was swinging in the powerplay, so since I started playing T20 cricket, it was the most difficult powerplay for me.’ He also praised his Australian teammate Warner. Marsh said, ‘I like to bat with Davy (Warner). We have formed very good partnerships.
