Mohammad Siraj gave clarification on the spat with Steve Smith
Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar expressed unhappiness over Siraj’s behavior
New Delhi. On the second day of the World Test Championship, Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj did something that caused controversy. Actually, Siraj threw the ball in anger towards Australian batsman Steve Smith. This happened when he reached the crease to throw the ball, but suddenly Smith moved away from the front of the wicket. In Jhunjhlight, Siraj threw the ball towards Smith. Later Smith argued for doing so because of the spider cam. Former India coach Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar are unhappy with this action of Siraj. Both had also expressed their opinion on this during the commentary.
Sunil Gavaskar said during the commentary, what is happening? This was the second and third ball of the day’s game and such a reaction of the bowler on this is beyond comprehension. Shastri also supported Smith and said that if the batsman was not ready then he has every right to withdraw. I think the two fours that Smith hit in the beginning of this over was nothing more than his annoyance.
I myself was desperate: Siraj
After the end of the second day’s play, when Mohammad Siraj was asked a question on this issue, he gave a strange argument behind doing so. Siraj said, “There was nothing like controversy. It was just a little fun. If you enjoy the game, your mind will be at peace. If you take more pressure than necessary, it will affect your bowling.
When asked if this was part of his plan to harass Smith, Siraj further said, “There was nothing like that. There was no plan to disappoint him. I myself was disappointed. That’s why did this to enjoy bowling.
