London. Team India recently got defeated in the final of the World Test Championship played in England. Australia defeated India by 209 runs in the title match played at The Oval ground. Earlier in 2021 also, Team India was defeated in the final of the first season played in England itself. The match between India and New Zealand was then played in Southampton. India has to play 10 Tests in 2025 and 2029 on the soil of England. During this, matches will be played for the Indian team from The Oval to Southampton.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday announced the names of the venues for the matches between India and England. Under the Future Tour Program of the International Cricket Council, India has to tour England for 5 Tests in June 2025. These matches will be played at The Oval, Edgbaston, Headingley and Old Trafford apart from Lord’s, which is called the Mecca of cricket.
Southampton selected for 2029
Team India has to play a 5-match Test series in England in the year 2029 as well. Only one venue has been changed for this series. Instead of Headingley, a test will be played in Southampton, while the remaining 4 venues will remain Lord’s, The Oval, Edgbaston and Old Trafford. ECB CEO Richard Gold said that by announcing the next 7-year schedule, we are giving Venue a chance to prepare, so that they can invest in stadium improvements as well as creating special facilities for fans.
Apart from Australia, India is the only team against which England plays 5 Test series both at home and abroad. England’s next tour of India will be in January 2024 for 5 Test matches, which will be played for the Anthony de Mello Trophy. India and England are playing 5 matches in a Test series since 2014. The exception to this was England’s 2020–21 tour of India, which was reduced by one Test to accommodate a limited-overs series. India last won a Test series abroad almost 16 years ago in 2007 against England.
