WI vs IND: ‘Ishaan likes aggressive cricket, we will give him freedom’, Rohit Sharma about Team India’s partner

New Delhi. India vs West Indies: The injury of regular wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant in a car accident has emerged as a big opportunity for 25-year-old Ishan Kishan in Test cricket. After handing over the responsibility of wicketkeeping to KS Bharat in the Test series against Australia and the final of the World Test Championship, Team India has expressed confidence in Ishaan in the Test against the West Indies. Although Ishaan did not get much chance to show Jauhar with the bat in the first Test of Dominica, but he impressed with his skills behind the wicket.

Captain Rohit Sharma praised his young wicket-keeper batter before the second test. He told that Ishaan likes to play aggressive cricket and we have given him the freedom to play in this style.

‘It’s our responsibility to hone his talent’

Rohit said, ‘Ishaan is a very talented player. We have seen this in his short career for India so far. He has scored a double century in limited overs cricket. He has the game and it is our responsibility to hone his talent. Hindustan Times quoted Rohit as saying, ‘We have to give him an opportunity for this. He is a left handed batsman and likes to play aggressive cricket. I have had a direct conversation with him. I told him about the kind of game the team management wanted from him. He has been given freedom. He needs freedom and we will give him this opportunity.

IND vs WI: Ashwin has a chance to make many records in Port of Spain, will Murali match?

‘Such wickets where there was uneven bounce, he did good wicketkeeping’

Rohit also praised Ishan Kishan’s performance behind the wicket in the Dominica Test. In this test, Ishaan took two catches in the first innings. Rohit said, ‘I would especially like to say about his wicketkeeping. Despite playing the first Test on such a wicket, on which Ashwin and Jadeja’s balls were not only turning and bouncing but some balls were also staying low, he kept wickets brilliantly..I am very impressed with his wicketkeeping ability. Unfortunately he was able to score only one run as we had to declare the innings. We want our top batsman to play long pawari and if the opportunity comes, he (Ishaan) is ready to show his power.
