Wicketkeeper cannot be opening batter in Tests Says Gautam Gambhir on KL Rahul

Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been under the scanner of critics in recent times for his shot selection. He has also come under the target of fans after being dismissed without opening an account in the second innings of the second Test against South Africa. In such a situation, the fans have advised KL Rahul to keep wicketkeeping in his place. Karnataka cricketer Rahul has done a great job behind the wicket for India in white ball cricket on several occasions. In such a situation, many people believe that he can do the same in Test cricket. However, the former India opener gautam gambhir doesn’t think so. Gambhir has said that an opener cannot do this in a batter test.

IPL 2022: AB de Villiers told why he retired, said this big thing about his return to IPL

Responding to a fan’s query on Star Sports, Gambhir said, “All I can say is that KL Rahul will be right only as an opener. Because if a wicketkeeper keeps wickets for 150 overs and after that he has to play the new ball too, then what will be his condition. This is almost impossible. This can happen in ODI and T20 cricket, but in Test matches you will need a regular wicketkeeper.

Former opener Gambhir further said that a wicketkeeper cannot open in Tests. He said, ‘Your wicketkeeper cannot open in Test matches. Either he will keep the key or he will open it. That’s why I would not suggest KL Rahul to be a keeper at all, because you want him to score more runs against the new ball and now he has started getting into the rhythm in Test cricket.
