New Delhi. India’s T20 captain Hardik Pandya and all-rounder Shubman Gill could be rested from the three-match T20I series against Ireland from August 18 in view of the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup.
BCCI sources gave this information. Pandya is an important part of India’s ODI team and being an all-rounder gives balance to the team. The team management and the national selection committee want to be careful about him.
A board source told PTI, “Nothing is finalized yet and it will also depend on how Hardik feels after the ODIs and T20s.” There will be a lot of travel in this and there is only three days before traveling from Florida to Dublin.
He said, ‘Workload management is necessary in view of the World Cup. He is also the vice-captain in the World Cup. The Indian team will play three ODIs and five T20 matches against the West Indies in West Indies and America from July 27 to August 13.
India has to play three T20 matches (18, 20 and 23 August) in Ireland within five days. Before the World Cup, India also has to play the Asia Cup.
