Jasprit Bumrah’s return to Team India will not be easy
He is yet to get the green signal from NCA regarding match fitness.
New Delhi. Will Jasprit Bumrah be fully fit for the World Cup? Team India would like that Bumrah returns to the field as soon as possible. From the videos shared by Bumrah, it is expected that he will make a comeback soon but his comeback is not going to be so easy. He will return to the field after back surgery. It is not easy for a fast bowler to come back from such an injury. Team India has already suffered losses due to haste regarding Bumrah’s return. In such a situation, this time the BCCI and the selectors will not take any risk with him. There are 3 screws stuck in the way of Bumrah being declared fully fit.
Jasprit Bumrah’s first test will be in the T20 series against Ireland. India has to go to Ireland for 3 T20 series next month. Even if Bumrah goes to Ireland for the tour starting on August 18, it is unlikely that he will play all three T20s. Because all three matches will be played with a gap of one day and Bumrah is returning after recovering from the surgery of stress fracture of lower back. In such a situation, it is most important to take care of their workload.
Bumrah’s comeback will not be easy
Bumrah’s first stop on the way to being declared fully fit by the National Cricket Academy’s medical team will be to be able to bowl 4 overs in T20 at full power or pace. This is the first screw in the way of his comeback. According to news agency PTI, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is yet to get a green signal from the NCA physio and doctor that Bumrah will be available for the Ireland tour.
What is the return from injury rule?
If a player is preparing to return to the team after a long injury, then he has to play domestic cricket to prove his fitness. A BCCI source told PTI that I think the NCA and the selection committee have exempted Bumrah from this. Because he is not a part of the West Zone team selected for the Deodhar Trophy. This means that he is not yet that match ready, otherwise he would have played one match in Deodhar Trophy.
The source further added that ahead of the selection meeting for the Ireland series, the NCA physio will update the chief selector Ajit Agarkar & Co about the fitness reports of all the players. If in the physio’s report it will be about Bumrah that apart from bowling four overs, he will be able to field 16 overs in T20 and later 40 overs in ODIs, then he will be selected.
That is, Bumrah will not only have to bowl with full force, but will also have to show fielding. The selectors will not only look at the bowling fitness, but they will also look at whether Bumrah is in a position to field in the humid conditions of Sri Lanka during the Asia Cup. That’s why bowling just 7-8 overs in the nets won’t do.
