Mumbai. India’s middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been advised rest for 10 days. No decision has been taken yet regarding his availability for IPL 2023. Shreyas Iyer’s back injury resurfaced during the Ahmedabad Test against Australia, after which he did not play the entire Ahmedabad Test. After this, he also had to be ruled out of the 3-match ODI series against Australia. Many such reports were coming out in the media that Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of IPL 2023 as well. But according to the latest reports, the decision to play Shreyas in IPL can be taken after 10 days.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, Shreyas Iyer will have to wait for 10 days to know about his exact condition after meeting spine specialist Dr. Abhay Nene. The report also states that the tests done on Shreyas Iyer are not good enough, but he has not been officially ruled out of the IPL.
Shreyas Iyer was dropped from the Ahmedabad test due to poor initial scan results. After returning to his hometown Mumbai, Shreyas Iyer spoke to Dr. Abhay Nene about his injury. Dr. Nene is a specialist in Lilavati Hospital and deals with Spine problems.
It is understood that Dr. Abhay Nene has advised Shreyas Iyer to go through the usual process ie rest and rehab. He has asked Shreyas Iyer to come after 10 days. According to the report, Shreyas Iyer will be able to know about his immediate and long term future in the next few days.
The report also states that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), of which Iyer is the captain, is preparing itself for that situation. If Shreyas Iyer is not available for the competition, then Sunil Narine is a possible candidate for the captaincy. But in case of non-availability of Shreyas Iyer, the franchise can look in the other direction as well. According to the report, the team will assemble in Kolkata in the next few days and the new captain will be decided after getting full clarity on Shreyas Iyer.
