India start on a winning note in Women’s Under-19 World Cup
Hosts beat South Africa by 7 wickets
New Delhi. The Indian team has started the Women’s Under-19 World Cup with a bang. In the first match against the host South Africa, captain Shefali Verma and opener Shweta Sehrawat won a strong victory on the basis of stormy innings. Batting first, the South African team scored 166 runs for 5 wickets. In response, India achieved the target of victory at the loss of 3 wickets in 16.3 overs.
Shefali-Shweta created a ruckus
Captain Shefali Verma made a stormy start in her own style and hit 70 runs in 7 overs with a flurry of fours. Along with Shweta Sehrawat, he added 77 runs to give the team a quick start. With the help of 9 fours and 1 six in just 16 balls, this explosive batsman hit 45 runs. Shafli missed out on scoring a half-century but Shweta scored fifty off just 37 balls with the help of 11 fours. Sheshni Naidu, who took the wicket of Trisha on the first ball of the 11th over, completed his half-century by hitting him for fours in the last three balls. After completing fifty, Shweta took an even more aggressive form and playing an unbeaten inning of 92 runs in just 57 balls, scoring 9 fours, led the team to victory.
South Africa had set a target of 167 runs
South Africa scored 165 runs for 5 wickets in front of India on the basis of Simeon Lawrence’s blazing half-century innings. Facing 44 balls, he played an inning of 61 runs, scoring 9 fours and 1 six. Madison Ladsman scored 32 runs off 17 balls. Apart from this, no batter could make a special contribution. India’s captain Shefali Verma took 2 wickets for 31 runs in 4 overs. Sonam Yadav and Parshawi Chopra got 1-1 wickets.
