ODI World Cup will be held in India from October 5
World Cup 2023 matches will be played in morning and afternoon
New Delhi. The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will begin with a match between defending champions England and runners-up New Zealand. This match will be played on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The ICC on Tuesday announced the schedule of the ODI World Cup to be held in October and November. The first semi-final will be played in Mumbai on 15 November and the second in Kolkata the next day. The matches of the World Cup will be played in two periods. Day matches will be held from 10.30 am, while the time of day night matches has been changed.
The final match will be held in Ahmedabad on November 19 while November 20 will be the reserve day. All three knockout matches will be day night. Generally, day night matches are played in India from 2.30 pm, but when the World Cup matches will be played, then the cold will be starting in India. In such a situation, day night matches will be played half an hour earlier i.e. from 2 o’clock. The host Indian team will start their campaign on October 8 against 5-time world champion Australia in Chennai.
Reserve day for semi-finals and final
Reserve day has been kept for both semi-finals and final of the World Cup. If it rains on the day of the semi-final and final match, the match will be conducted on the reserve day. The ICC has kept a reserve day for all three important matches. The first semi-final of the World Cup 2023 will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15 and the second at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata the next day. The final match will be held in Ahmedabad on November 19 while November 20 will be the reserve day. All three knockout matches will be of day night.
BCCI turned down Pakistan’s demand
Pakistan had demanded to have a match against India in Chennai, Bangalore or Kolkata, which was turned down by BCCI and ICC. 10 teams will participate in this World Cup, out of which 8 have qualified through the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League and the remaining two will reach through the ongoing qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe.
