Wrestlers Protest: BCCI also came under wraps amidst the performance of wrestlers, NHRC notice received, serious questions asked!

New Delhi. Wrestlers have opened a front against the President of the Wrestling Federation of India at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The matter has now reached the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the BCCI, which is busy earning money by organizing the Indian Premier League, has also come under the wraps of this protest. BCCI has received a notice from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). This notice is regarding the absence of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in the Cricket Board. Not only the BCCI, but a total of 16 sports associations have sought answers.

NHRC has sent notices to Sports Authority of India (SAI), BCCI, Wrestling Federation of India and several other National Sports Federations over reports that they do not have an internal complaint committee as per law and some have committees So it is not working properly.

These notices have come at a time when several wrestlers are protesting at Jantar Mantar against WFI president and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment of female wrestlers. The wrestlers are demanding his sacking and arrest.

The NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that there is no Internal Complaints Committee in the Wrestling Federation of India, as mandated under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act, 2013.

According to the NHRC statement, “WFI is reportedly not the only sports body which does not have a duly constituted ICC. There are 15 out of 30 National Sports Federations in the country which do not fulfill this essential requirement.
