WTC Final: Team India got defeated
Fans remember Dhoni’s captaincy

New Delhi. When the Indian cricket team, which has been yearning for the ICC trophy for the last ten years, lost the World Test Championship final at the hands of Australia on Sunday, the patience of cricket fans broke and they remembered the ‘Captain Cool’ Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who won four ICC titles. India won the last ICC title in 2013 when they defeated England in the Champions Trophy final under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Along with India’s defeat, the statement of former head coach Ravi Shastri also went viral which he said while commentating. The former all-rounder had said that winning the ICC trophy is not easy but Mahendra Singh Dhoni made it look easy. Under the leadership of Dhoni, the Indian team won the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. Along with this, Dhoni also got the opportunity to lift the then ICC mace, given to the best team of the year in Tests.

Many fans expressed their feelings on Twitter by sharing the picture of Dhoni with the three global trophies and the mace. The anger of the fans on Twitter also came out on the selection of wicketkeeper Shrikar Bharat. Making fun of Bharat, a Twitter account created by the name Pulkit wrote, “Khiladi aisa bano ki koi aapse kuch hope laga ke na sithe.” This tweet immediately went viral. People also raised questions on Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and fitness on social media. After the defeat of the Indian team, fans were seen advising to hand over the captaincy to Hardik Pandya in place of Rohit, at least in limited overs format.

A Twitter handle named Lisa wrote, “The time has come to remove lazy, unfit Rohit Sharma from the captaincy and make Hardik the ODI captain of India.” This is the only way India can win ICC trophies.” Not only Rohit, Indian fans demanded the top four players of the batting order to be dropped from the team.

The statement of former India captain and veteran opener Sunil Gavaskar also started doing business on social media. Gavaskar looked very upset with the way Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara got out by playing bad shots. He also criticized Man of the Match Travis Head for not bowling a bouncer. Gavaskar said, “We will now go to play with the West Indies. It doesn’t matter if we win there 2-0 or 3-0 because they are a weak team.”

The Indian team reached T20 World Cup in 2014, Champions Trophy in 2017 and WTC finals in 2021 and 2023 but did not get success.
