YouTube Could Launch Online Games, Company Starts Testing of New Product

Globally popular video sharing platform YouTube has started testing a product for playing online games. The company has invited employees to test a new product called ‘Playables’. Games like Stack Bounce are available for testing on it.

The Wall Street Journal reports that youtube Has sent an email about this to the employees of its parent company Google. These games can be played on web browsers via YouTube’s site or Google’s Android or Apple’s iOS mobile devices. A YouTube spokesperson said that the company’s focus has been on gaming. Experimenting with new features. However, with this he said that there is nothing to announce in this regard.

Many users stream games on YouTube and watch live streaming of games. The company’s CEO, Neal Mohan, plans to explore new areas for growth due to declining advertising revenue, and these include online games. The WSJ report states that several games have been made available to employees for testing. These include the Stack Bounce arcade game with advertisements. In this game, players have to break layers of bricks with a bouncing ball. Online gaming will give YouTube another way to generate revenue from the gaming industry.

Apart from this, the company has also planned to introduce some new features. These include YouTube’s first shopping channel to be launched in South Korea. Google YouTube, which is owned by the company Alphabet, has been facing tough competition from Tiktok for the past few years. YouTube ran into trouble in India late last year when the central government asked the company to remove three channels for making false claims about government welfare schemes and spreading fake news. These three channels were declared by the Fact Checking Unit of the Government’s Press Information Bureau as giving false and misleading information.
