Yuzvendra Chahal on ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Snub: I Was Not Dropped in Four Years Then I Got Dropped

New Delhi. India’s leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal spoke openly on this issue after not getting a place in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Chahal said that he found it difficult to come back from the decision of not being selected in the team, but his family and fans helped him to make a comeback. In the first phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, Chahal failed to make it to the T20 World Cup team due to poor performance. He took only four wickets in seven matches in the India leg of the tournament at an economy rate of 8.26. Despite being a part of India’s playing XI in limited overs games for the last four years, he could not make it to the World Cup squad. Rahul Chahar, who was selected in place of Chahal, took 11 wickets in the same number of matches at an economy rate of 7.21.

Yuzvendra Chahal in an exclusive conversation with Times of India admitted that he felt bad for a day or two, as he was a regular in the team. Suddenly, the decision to drop was hard to digest. He said, “I was not dropped in four years and then I was dropped for such a marquee event. I felt really bad. I was very upset for two-three days, but then I knew that the second phase of IPL was near. I went back to my coaches and talked to them a lot.”

With Yuzvendra Chahal’s exit, many fans and cricket pundits questioned the selectors for this drastic step. Chief selector Chetan Sharma then explained that they wanted spinners who could bowl fast and hence the likes of Varun Chakraborty and Rahul Chahar were drafted in the 15-man squad. Chahal said that after being dropped like this, his loved ones were by his side and they supported him. Chahal said that after this he could not afford to perform poorly in the UAE phase of the IPL.

He said, “My wife and family were constantly encouraging me. My fans kept posting motivational posts continuously. This got me excited. I decided to support my strength and clear my confusion. I couldn’t be angry for long, as it would have affected my IPL form.” Chahal made an impressive comeback in the UAE leg to pick up 14 wickets in eight matches at an economy rate of 7.06, while Chahar struggled hard. He took only two wickets in four matches at an economy rate of 7.73.
IND vs NZ: In the first T20, the dew has increased the concern of India and New Zealand, the toss will still not be important

Now Chahal is all set to make a comeback in the national team. He is part of Team India, which will take on New Zealand in the first match of the three-match T20 International series starting in Jaipur on 17 November. This will be a new opportunity for the entire team to regroup under a new captain. After Virat Kohli left the captaincy of T20 International, this responsibility has now been handed over to Rohit Sharma.
